This article examines engineering support and the selection of optimal sites for heap leach piles at the Akzhal gold deposit (Eastern Kazakhstan). The authors conducted a comparative analysis of various site preparation schemes based on terrain topography, slope gradient, and the volume of required excavation. The paper substantiates a comprehensive approach to site assessment, including economic criteria (transportation and planning costs), engineering and geological characteristics of the foundation, and environmental risks associated with proximity to water resources. The presented algorithm for engineering and geological surveys is recommended for use in the development of similar deposits and waste heaps, including the Makmal deposit in Kyrgyzstan.
