INFLUENCE OF TIME ON STRESS REDISTRIBUTION IN AN OPTICALLY ACTIVE SAMPLE

This paper presents the results of an experimental study of stress redistribution in an optically active specimen subjected to a constant vertical load for two years (2012–2014). Using a polarization-optical method, the authors found that the interaction of external pressure with initial residual stresses leads to the formation of zones of high tensile stress along the vertical cross-section, exceeding the initial values by 2.5 times. The article demonstrates that after unloading the specimen, the distribution of residual stresses changes significantly: a stable tensile zone forms along the vertical cross-section, while a significant decrease in the magnitudes of all stress components is observed along the horizontal cross-section. It is concluded that the dynamics of total stresses over time directly depends on the sign and magnitude of the initial stress state of the material.
