Abstract

This article analyzes the current state of the Kavak coal basin, the largest energy fuel base in northern Kyrgyzstan with balance reserves exceeding 1,230 million tons. The authors examine the development challenges of the Kara-Keche, Minkush, and Kök-Moinok deposits, noting the unsatisfactory technical condition of most open-pit mines, the backlog of stripping operations, and violations of mining technologies. Particular attention is paid to the environmental risks associated with radioactive tailings ponds in the village of Minkush. The authors substantiate the need for government support, strengthened oversight, and the implementation of deep coal processing technologies to produce liquid fuels and chemical products.
