Abstract

This article presents the results of long-term monitoring of the Tuyuk-Suu landslide (Min-Kush settlement), which began reactivating in 2004 due to man-made and natural factors. Based on geodetic (DGPS) and geophysical surveys, the authors determined that the landslide massif's volume had grown to 1.0 million m³ by 2013, encompassing the slope from its base to the watershed. Three tiers of landslide were identified, all in the progressive creep stage. Displacement analysis revealed a correlation between the intermittent movements and local seismicity. It is concluded that a gradual slope collapse is inevitable, posing a critical threat of destruction of the uranium tailings storage facility and subsequent radioactive contamination of the Naryn-Toktogul Reservoir river system.
