Abstract

This article analyzes the seismic stability of the Ishtamberdy mining complex's tailings dams, constructed using the upstream method. The authors examine the problem of water saturation in the pioneer dam body and the risk of tailings liquefaction under magnitude 9 seismicity. Using the direct dynamic method and the FLAC software suite, numerical modeling of an impact similar to the Suusamyr earthquake was performed. The calculation results allowed us to determine the magnitude of residual crest displacements, the zone of plastic deformation, and the area of ​​potential soil liquefaction. It is concluded that the structure is stable provided the water level in the dam is strictly controlled to maintain the pressure front.
