This article examines an innovative technology for constructing earth dams using a heterogeneous inclined layer structure. The authors substantiate the use of local materials (sand, crushed rock, and gravel) in combination with modern geosynthetics, such as bentonite and geotextiles, to improve the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the structures. The proposed inclined layer design of the transtropic structure effectively redistributes loads and reduces the concentration of hazardous stresses from seismic and hydrostatic forces.
