SIMULATION OF VISCOUS FLUID FLOW IN A CHANNEL WITH A BACKWARD-FACING INCLINED STEP

This paper presents a numerical simulation of three-dimensional turbulent separated flow in a channel with a backward-facing inclined step. The mathematical modeling is based on solving the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the control volume method and a standard turbulence model. The calculations revealed the effect of the step inclination angle on the length of the recirculation zone and revealed the occurrence of secondary separation at the upper wall at small inclination angles. The adequacy of the model is confirmed by satisfactory agreement between the numerical results and experimental data on the mean velocity distributions.
