This article proposes a theoretical approach to determining the critical stress intensity factor for a rock mass in the vicinity of underground structures. The authors develop the idea of a relationship between macroscopic fracture characteristics and microstructural processes using quantum-mechanical parameters (Planck's constant) and the physical and mechanical properties of the medium (Young's modulus, speed of sound). A generalized formula is proposed for , taking into account the number of microcracks and their propagation pitch. Based on the obtained relationships, the possibility of predicting the critical working depth at which brittle fracture of the rock mass around the structure's perimeter begins is established.
