Abstract

This article addresses the pressing issue of predicting landslide processes in inclined-layered anisotropic soils. The author substantiates the need for a scientific approach to protecting populated areas, citing examples of catastrophic landslides in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan (Almaty region). The paper presents a mathematical model of soil as a transtropic medium, described by the generalized Hooke's law. The finite element method (FEM) using quadrangular isoparametric elements is used to calculate the geostatic stress field. Slope stability is assessed using the Mohr-Coulomb criterion, adapted for contact zones between inclined layers. The scientific novelty of the study lies in its substantiation of the concept of constructing retaining walls with "induced anisotropy" and the search for the optimal inclination of the isotropic plane to ensure maximum stability of engineering structures.
