GEOMECHANICAL STATE OF WASTE FROM THE SUMSAR-SHEKAFTARA MINING COMPLEX

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the geomechanical and environmental conditions of waste in the Sumsar-Shekaftar mining region, one of the most vulnerable regions of southern Kyrgyzstan. The authors describe in detail the current state of tailings ponds and waste rock dumps formed as a result of polymetallic, uranium, and gold ore deposits. Particular attention is paid to risk factors such as dam erosion, toxic element leaching into the Sumsar-Sai River, and the risk of dump collapse under precipitation and seismic processes. The paper assesses the stability of man-made structures depending on the slope of the underlying surface and soil moisture, and also presents data from a radioecological survey of uranium dumps in residential areas.
