STRESS DISTRIBUTION UNDER UNIAXIAL COMPRESSION OF AN OPTICALLY ACTIVE SAMPLE WITH RESIDUAL STRESSES

This article presents the results of an experimental study of stress redistribution in a solid optically active specimen containing internal residual stresses. Polarization-optical analysis was used to study the interaction of residual stress fields created by heat treatment with external, long-term compressive loading. The author analyzes the dynamics of changes in the principal normal and maximum shear stresses in the vertical and horizontal sections of the model over a four-month period. It was found that long-term loading leads to a significant increase in tensile stresses and an expansion of their zones of action along the vertical section, which creates potentially hazardous crack initiation zones. The data obtained provide a better understanding of the mechanisms of geomechanical processes in real rock masses with complex tectonic histories.
