Abstract

This article examines the methodology of differentiated reserve delineation as a tool for regulating the quality of extracted ore during bulk mining. The author explores a strategy of applying a higher cutoff grade in the first years of production followed by a subsequent reduction, which allows for the development of higher-grade areas at the initial stage. Using an optimization model utilizing NPV (net present value) and IRR criteria, it is demonstrated that advanced mining of high-grade reserves, even with the loss of some low-grade marginal ores, is more cost-effective than the traditional strategy of maintaining ore quality.
