SIMULATION OF THE MOTION OF A LIQUID COLUMN IN A PACKET Open FOAM

This article presents the results of numerical modeling of a classical dam break problem (gravity-driven fluid column motion) using the open-source OpenFOAM 1.7.1 software package. The mathematical model is based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations, and the volume of fluid (VOF) method is used to track the air-water interface. The model is validated by comparing the obtained free surface profiles and pressure dynamics with experimental data and calculations using the commercial FLUENT package.
