2D COMPUTER SIMULATION OF THE OPERATION OF A PROMISING ROARING-TYPE WIND TURBINE

A two-dimensional mathematical model of the interaction between a vertical-axis carousel wind turbine (Darrieus rotor) and a stationary airflow is described. The method is based on the combined numerical solution of the stationary Navier-Stokes equations in streamfunction-vortex variables and the equation for the change in the angular momentum of a mechanical system. The aerodynamic forces are calculated using thin-airfoil theory, taking into account concentrated sources of drag. This allowed us to determine the velocity field and the dynamics of the rotor's angular velocity using a longitudinal-transverse sweep method.
