Abstract

This article examines a computational and experimental method for specifying the phenomenological Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion for semi-brittle geomaterials exhibiting dilatancy under triaxial compression. The authors propose an algorithm for determining the position of slip planes and shear angles based on recording the transition point from the Mohr-Coulomb condition to the Tresca criterion. It is shown that using standard uniaxial compression test data in combination with linear interpolation of strength parameters enables the highly accurate construction of Mohr's limit circles and their common envelope.
