This article examines crack formation and fracture zone development in the vicinity of an underground mine working in a layered coal seam with a transtropic structure. Using the finite element method based on isoparametric elements and the Kazgarande-Carrillo strength criterion, the stability conditions of the rock mass under geostatic and tectonic loads are determined. The authors determined the numerical parameters for the length and width of cracks developing parallel, perpendicular, and at an angle to the isotropic plane at various working depths.
